In The Wishing Spell, Alex and Conner travel through the Land of Stories, looking for items that serve as "ingredients" for the Wishing Spell, so that they could get back to the Otherworld using the spell. The twins learn about it after finding a journal once owned by their father in Rapunzel's tower. The ingredients are given in clue form as rhyming couplets.Ex: teardrops of a maiden fairy/feeling neither magical nor merry(fairy tears) and glass that housed a lonely sole/up til midnight's final toll(Cinderella's glass slippers). Unlike their later adventures, the twins only have each other for company as Froggy is scared to leave his home, Red is in her castle, Goldielocks is still alone except for her horse, Porridge, and Jack remains in the Red Riding Hood Kingdom.
