Background[]
King Chester Charming is an original character from The Land of Stories series. He does not appear in the books, but is described in The Wishing Spell and mentioned by Ezmia in The Enchantress Returns. In his past, he searched for a bride and considered Evly's mother, whom he had fallen in love with and could not marry her unless he proved she was of royal blood, so he put a pea under her mattress, claiming only a princess could have felt the imperfection. He proposed after she complained of a restless night, but she refused. Her restless night was due to a pregnancy, and she fled and had the child (Evly) in a village, dying in childbirth.
He than married Queen Clarice Charming and they had four sons, King Chance Charming, who married Queen Cinderella and had Princess Hope Charming. King Chase Charming, who married Queen Beauty II, with whom he adopted Princess Ash Charming. King Chandler Charming, who married Queen Snow White, and King Charles Carlton "Froggy" Charming, who married Queen Red Riding Hood with whom he adopted six sons.

- He is presumably deceased as of the start of The Wishing Spell, as his eldest son is already king of the Charming Kingdom.
- King Chester is both the prince from The Princess and the Pea and the King from Cinderella.
- King Chester had a romantic past with his daughter-in-law's step-mother's mother.
- It is unknown if he knew The Evil Queen's true origin, as he knew her biological mother closely and loved her. It is also unknown if he loved his wife, Queen Clarice, as he had loved Evly's mother.
