The cyclone in Kansas
Kansas is a U.S. State located in the Midwestern United States. It was featured in L. Frank Baum's The Land of Oz. The main character of the story, Dorothy, lived there before she was transported into the magical world of Oz by a cyclone.
History[]
Alex, Conner, Mother Goose, Lester, Goldilocks, Jack, and Queen Red Riding Hood traveled into the story and the Land of Oz in pursuit of the Masked Man.
When they went inside the book through the portal potion, they arrived in fictional Kansas. It was described as colorless and depressing. Red remarked: "It reminds me of my kingdom - if all the happiness and color had been drained from it."[1]
They met the characters from the book; Dorothy, Auntie Em and Uncle Henry, and were invited into their farmhouse. The house was very small and had only one room. The farmhouse also had a storm cellar. They served only corn. They never got any visitors and lived a very dull life (and ate dull food). Dorothy was practically starved for stories. Conner and his friends pretended to be from a circus, and got along well with Dorothy.
True to the book, a cyclone arrived. The twins and their friends were separated from Dorothy, who had gone back into the house to retrieve Toto while they seeked shelter in the barn. At the last moment, they saw the Masked Man sprint to the house to "catch a ride". The cyclone lifted the entire house and the barn up in the air and deposited them in different locations of Oz; the friends landed on top of the Tin Woodman, while the Masked Man presumably ended up in Munchkinland.[2]
