Background[]
The magical moth that appears in Beyond the Kingdoms is a magical creature (or possibly a spell or magical manifestation) sent by the Fairy Godmother to help Alex.
"It was a giant moth, proportionately sized in scale of the giant's castle, and it was made entirely of white light."[1]
The moth does not speak, but Alex feels that it means to help her, as it appears directly after she asks her (deceased) grandmother for help. She climbs on its back and the moth brings her to a special place in the forest to show her a memory of the Fairy Godmother and Lloyd. There, the moth dissolves into glowing orbs and forms a part of the memory landscape and the two figures of the Fairy Godmother and Lloyd.
Later, when Alex is describing the situation to Conner and the rest of the group, Conner displays astonishment and disbelief, saying "Grandma sent you an angel moth from outer space?"[2]
