Mistress Mara was the founder of Ravencrest School of Witchcraft, and the infamous Daughter of Death.

Biography[]

Time on Earth[]

Death always wondered why humans grieved their loved ones, even though they lived for exactly one hundred years. To understand this, he sent his daughter, Mara, down to earth. As soon as she crossed into the world of the living, she grew addicted to the laughter and music and joy she found there.

Soon, Death missed his daughter, and finally understood what it was like to miss someone so dearly. He waited for his daughter's one hundred years to pass by, in the hopes that she would join him, however, unfortunately for him, Mara enjoyed the joys of living so much that she made sure to escape Death's clutches. Desperate, Death created things, such as disease and injury, so she would return to him and made it so that instead of living for one hundred years, all humans lived for as long as it took them to achieve their purpose.

Mara never returned. Instead, she stayed on earth, defying her father. But she soon grew bitter, as she saw loved ones die and get killed by humans, and so, she began to grow resentful toward humanity.

The Ravencrest School of Witchcraft[]

Brystal Evergreen was able to secure a widespread acceptance of magic from the non-magical community, but Mistress Mara couldn't forgive the world for what it had done so she swore to get vengeance for all the lives taken from her. To do this, she created the Ravencrest School of Witchcraft, where she taught young witches such as Hareiet, Sprout, Beebee, and Stitches how to master the art of witchcraft.

Mistress Mara and her students journeyed to the Celeste Weatherberry Memorial Academy of Magic, which taught fairies, and was governed by the Fairy Council and the Fairy Godmother, Brystal Evergreen. There, Mara offered the fairies a chance to join her school and learn witchcraft. Pip, one of Brystal's good friends, joined Mistress Mara shortly before she left, leaving Brystal distraught.

Later, Mistress Mara found Lucy Goose at her academy. She gave Goose a tour of the mansion, and again, asked if she would like to join her at the school for witchcraft. Lucy Goose agreed to try out her school, and Mistress Mara bid her good night.

Mistress Mara, answering the call of Hareiet, appears to her and Lucy, the latter of whom was caught wandering in her study. At first, she was enraged Lucy trespassed into her private study but when Lucy confessed her specialty for trouble, it intrigued Mistress Mara, and so, she let it slide, but turned Hareiet into a lynx, just as she did numerous other students, such as Rat Mary.

The following days, Mistress Mara taught her students the ways of witchcraft and tested them about the four fundamentals of witchcraft which include jinxes, hexes, potions, and curses. She was once seen talking about her arrangement with Prince Gallivant by Lucy.

Once Pip and Lucy passed their tests, Mistress Mara led them to the initiation ceremony. There, unbeknownst to Lucy, she cursed her with the Shadow Beast by making her drink a potion. When the two awoke, Mistress Mara urged Lucy to keep her moonstone necklace on, so her Shadow Beast would not be obvious or noticeable.

Death[]

Later, Mistress Mara was killed by a bloodstone arrow, one of the only weapons that could kill witches. It was created by Death, in the hopes of reuniting with his daughter.

Mistress Mara was last seen by Brystal Evergreen in the border between life and death where she explained the strange location to her. Mistress Mara also admitted that she was the one who cursed Brystal to have negative thoughts, so she would be susceptible to Prince Gallivant. Mistress Mara told Brystal to return to her home alive, because there were more people she could save, so when Death entered the grove, Mistress Mara suggested that he take her instead of Brystal. Death agreed, on one condition; that Brystal would kill the Immortal (later revealed to be Immortalia) within a year. The preposition was accepted, and Mistress Mara reunited with her father at last.

Physical Appearance[]

Mistress Mara was described as tall, pale, and pretty with ashy makeup. She wore a dark and tight dress.

Personality[]

Mistress Mara grew fond of living, after she was created by Death, driving her to escape from Death's toll. Mistress Mara seemed to, also, be a vengeful individual, seeing as she could not forgive humanity, and planned to kill everyone, for the sake of vengeance. Seven used this strong hatred to blind her into helping him earn power. In spite of her disdain for humanity, she is shown to be a rather clever and powerful witch. When she attempted to save, and succeeded in saving Brystal from her father, it was shown that she truly cared about fixing her past mistakes, as well.

Death[]

According to Pip's story, Death randomly took a human's life, hoping it would be his daughter. Before he started taking lives after Mara defied her father, the rules were that you had to live a hundred years and then die, but because his daughter was lost, they were changed to "complete your purpose and die", showing just how important Mara was important to Death. He also invented everything that could end a life, such as bloodstone, disease, injury, and plagues, in desperation to reunite with his daughter.
