Description[]
The Emerald City is the capital city of the Land of Oz in L. Frank Baum's Oz books.
In Beyond the Kingdoms, Alex, Conner, Mother Goose, Lester, Goldilocks, Jack and Queen Red Riding Hood travel into the story and the Land of Oz in persuit of the Masked Man.
They follow the Yellow Brick Road to get to Winkie Country. On their way, they pass the Emerald City, but lack the time to visit it. The outside is described as following:
"A bright greenish glow filled the sky above the city in the horizon. A massive gate had been built around the city and was covered in emerald and jewels that twinkled so brightly in the sun, it was almost blinding."[1]
Alex is very disappointed they can't go inside.
Trivia[]
- In the original book, the city is painted white and the green only existed because Oz (who is actually a phony) forced everyone to wear special glasses when entering the city for false purposes being "it is so marvelous your eyes will be damaged"
