Historically, the Grande Armée (French for Great Army) was the name of the army commanded by Napoleon during the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815).[3] A battalion of the army lead by the infamous General Marquis entered the Land of Stories through a portal—two hundred years after the Napoleonic Wars.

Appearance and Personality[]

The soldiers are mentioned to be wearing the typical red uniform of the historical Grande Armée.

Roundabout five thousand French soldiers pass through the portal, and the inmates from Pinocchio Prison and criminals from the Dwarf Forests and the other kingdoms join their forces to make up an army of roughly 9000 men, trolls, goblins, witches, ogres and other magical creatures.[4] The Masked Man also joins them.

They are defeated by the combined forces of the armies of the kingdoms, their civilians, the Fairy Council, and Alex and Conner's magic. At the end of A Grimm Warning, only a very small fraction of the army has survived. They attack the Fairy Palace lead by Colonel Rembert, but it is implied they are defeated by Skylene and Xanthous.[5]

In Beyond the Kingdoms, what is left of the army returns with the Masked Man. The soldiers are still lead by Colonel Rembert. When Alex traps everyone inside the Witches' Brew and lifts it up in the air, the Masked Man escapes, leaving his army behind. Back on the ground, they are arrested and taken to Pinocchio Prison.[6] Later, the Masked Man returns with a new army of literary villains, and frees his former soldiers from prison again.

What happened to the army after the death of the Masked Man and the defeat of the literary villains is unknown but it's likely that they were defeated again and sent back to Pinocchio Prison or else, they would have started living in the Dwarf Forests as outlaws.
