Description[]

In The Enchantress Returns, the Evil Enchantress Ezmia explains the story of the Souls in the Jars; five men whose souls she trapped in jars as revenge. One of them is the Pied Piper. His flute, used to chase all of the rats out of a town, was bewitched by Ezmia.

Ezmia says she gave him the flute so he would not feel like he was less important than she was.

"I thought if I gave him something that made him feel as important as me, he would learn to love me for me and not my title."[1]

Unfortunately, her plan does not work, and he eventually cheats on her, causing Ezmia to capture his soul in a jar.

Trivia[]

The Pied Piper is a German folklore legend of the "Rat-Catcher of Hamelin" (read more here). Ezmia's story connects her with several other fairy tales and items such as Beauty and the Beast, the Gingerbread Man and the golden harp.
