The Seafoam Spirit is an original character from The Land of Stories series, though she is based on the fairy tale character The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen who falls in love with a human prince and makes a deal with the Sea Witch to trade her voice for a pair of legs in order to join him on land. She needs to make him fall in love with her or perish- when the prince falls in love with someone else, her sisters make a deal with the Seawitch too. The Little Mermaid must kill the prince in order to return to the sea as a mermaid. She refuses and turns into sea foam.
Appearance and Personality
"A cluster of sea foam drifted through the ocean towards Conner and Alex. It came into their bubble and swirled around before hovering in front of them. It slowly morphed into the shape of a mermaid. [...] She was frothy, and her foam was constantly rejuvinating itself."
The Seafoam Spirit is a kind and benevolent being who tries to help in whatever way she can. She uses her vast knowledge to help others. She is also a selfless being as she sacrificed her life for the life of the man who had forsaken her.
The Wishing Spell
True to the original story, the Seafoam Spirit tells Alex and Conner she was unable to kill the prince, and was thus turned into sea foam. She helps the twins by telling them her dagger, which can be found in the Thornbush Pit, is one of the items they need for the Wishing Spell.
She is able know things "said or felt near bodies of water".
The Enchantress Returns
In The Enchantress Returns, she helps the twins again by making the mermaids to push their airship off the river delta where it had stranded and asking a giant seaturtle to bring them to the Sea Witch, because she cannot leave the bay herself. She also gives them magic scuba masks to breathe underwater.
"Why do you always ask what someone's motives are when they help you?"
